Join the Globe Labs Voice API 2013 Challenge!

Last week we had great fun visiting Manila with the Globe Labs team for Globe Labs Developer Day, where they previewed their new Voice API powered by Tropo.   Globe is the latest of the world’s leading telecom operators to open up the Tropo API to their developers.   As you may recall, Deutsche Telekom’s Developer Garden launched the Telekom Tropo API last summer, followed by the launch of AT&T’s Call Management API (powered by Tropo) in January of this year.

Talk candy to me…using Tropo and Cumulocity

Continuing on our recent post about a clever phone-enabled coffee machine hack comes another ingenious hack from our friends at Developer Garden. (We announced our partnership with Deutsche Telekom’s Developer Garden giving developers full access to the Telekom Tropo API last year.) Flexing that well-known German ingenuity, these developers created a phone-enabled vending machine app. Yes, you can now get your 4pm gummy bear fix by simply talking to the vending machine. You no longer have to scrounge for change or ask your coworker to borrow another quarter, simply call up your vending machine and just ask nicely.

Tropo Powers AT&T Developer Summit 2013 Hackathon Winners

This past weekend in Las Vegas, AT&T held their 6th Developer Summit and Hackathon at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas.   Many of us from the Voxeo Labs team were on hand to assist the hackathon teams with building apps using the AT&T’s new Call Management API powered by Tropo.  The event was a great success with over 400 developers creating over 70 hacks in less than 48 hours. Continuing on our recent post about a nifty christmas light hack comes another fun hack from our friends across the pond at Developer Garden.  Last July we announced our partnership with Deutsche Telekom’s Developer Garden allowing developers full access to the Tropo API.   Recently the folks over a Developer Garden got together with some friends at Oracle for a “DIY Workshop” focusing mostly on Mobile-to-Mobile (M2M) devices.

Tropo sprouts up in Deutsche Telekom’s Developer Garden

Since we initially launched Tropo back in 2009, we’ve always held the view that mobile carriers hold a unique position in the developer ecosystem.   Beyond the obvious massive technology infrastructure that carriers employ that makes it so Grandma can easily pick up the phone and call you to say “happy birthday”, carriers also have other advantages like millions of subscribers, frictionless billing, and strong partnerships with mobile device manufacturers.
